The BSIS requires that all individuals take a 40-hour licensing course broken down into 8 hours of initial training, 16 hours within the first 30 days, and 16 hours of additional training within the first 6 months. Thereafter, 8 hours of training is required annually.

8-Hour Guard Card Course

This course is the first step required to getting a guard card. It consists of 4-hours of required Power-to-Arrest training and 4-hours of required Weapons of Mass Destruction training. The course is based on the California Department of Consumer Affairs' Power to Arrest Training Manual and the California State BSIS course syllabus.

40-Hour Guard Card Course

This course meets the State of California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS) 40 hour required training for California Security Guards. This package includes the initial 8-hour California guard card training required to start the application process and eight 4-hour online courses that combine to fulfill the thirty-two (32) hour Mandatory training requirement for California Security Guards. The course is based on the California State BSIS course syllabus.
